‘Dirty bomb’ threat on Maersk box ship
Port of Charleston has now reopened after dirty bomb threat on a Maersk Line ship

A Maersk Line container ship has been caught up in a dirty bomb scare.

Four containers were scanned aboard Maersk Memphis at the Port of Charleston in South Carolina after reports of a potential threat on Wednesday – leading to the evacuation of Wando terminal and a safety zone imposed around it.

The terminal reopened today (15 June) after it was established there was no existing threat to the Port of Charleston.

US Coast Guard said the original reporting source of the threat in the Port of Charleston has been detained for questioning.
